Began shag dancing at age 14 and I’ve loved it ever since. I am a 2-time National Shag and Overall Champion in the Pro Division. I have a passion for instruction of the dance I love, the Shag. I have been competing about 30 years now with numerous CSA/SPA wins in all three divisions, Amateur, Novice and Pro. I’m ready to serve your needs as a dancer to make you better and enjoy the social dancing side of shag.

What You’ll Learn from jeff Hargett
Technique
Understanding of how to use your lead hand by each partner. Leading and understanding body positions are the main focus on my technique classes.
Male Leads
Giving those male leaders the skills to make it through multiple songs with male leads that are fun, with a little challenge to them as well. These male leads will work on the technique that you learned from earlier videos.
Enjoyment of Dancing
Giving you the tools to have a good time on the dance floor while giving you and your partner a chance to show off a little during your dances.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
I began dancing Tap and Jazz at the age of 5 and later expanded into Ballroom.At 14, I discovered Shag when my parents began teaching it in our garage, which had been converted into a dance studio. I was drawn to the fun and laughter that filled their classes and knew I wanted to be a part of it. They started me with the basics - and I was hooked.
At 21, I took the plunge into competition after months of focused practice. I joined CSA, won my first three Amateur contests, and continued competing until advancing into the Pro Division.
Later, I partnered with legend Nikki Kontoulas. Together, we competed throughout CSA, winning numerous contests and building friendships that I still cherish today. In 2005, we won both the Pro Title and Overall Title at the National Shag Dance Championships.
In 2013, I partnered with legend Autumn Jones, and once again captured both the Pro and Overall Titles at the National Shag Dance Championships. During that same time, I was asked - last minute - to fill in on the Grand Nationals Shag Dance Team, where we placed 1st.
During these years, I also became a father to my son, Weston. Balancing fatherhood and dancing has brought some of the most meaningful moments of my life. In 2024, I had the honor of judging for the first time at the National Shag Dance Championships. I also assist in choreographing the Jukin’ Juniors Shag Dance Team, helping develop the next generation of dancers. Today, I am proud to serve as a firefighter in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, while continuing to stay deeply connected to the Shag community.
