ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Carolina Shag has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started my first lessons around the age of eight. Before, I had only seen my grandparents do it a couple of times. After I had turned eight, my grandmother offered to take me to receive my first shag lesson. I continued to take lessons for almost a year until I stopped. I was not sure at the time if shag was something that really interested in me. Another year or two had passed when my grandmother offered to take me to lessons being taught at bar called Lynn's up in Charlotte, North Carolina. When I finished my first lesson at Lynn's, a spark lit up inside me and I knew then that I had fell in love with the dance we have all come to know and love. The next couple of years following my first lessons at Lynn's, I was invited to be a member of the Junior Shag Dance Team which was coached by Brennar Goree, Ashley and Tabitha Stewart. From 2015-2019, I competed with the dance team, traveling from one end of the states to other. We also, traveled abroad to France and Australia to represent our beloved dance. Outside of the dance team, I participated in multiple individual competitions and helped created routines. Since I had left the team due to aging out of juniors, I have been staying active in the shag community by assisting in teaching classes, hosting private lessons and helping with available workshops. My goal, is to preserve Carolina Shag for future generations to experience and appreciate the activity that brings so many people together as friends and family.
