LYNN STOCKER
- Carolina Shag Instructor -
Hi, I’m Lynn Stocker! I’ve been shag dancing for 11 years and love sharing my passion with others. My goal is to help students build a strong foundation by focusing on the true basics of shag dancing. Shag is much more than memorizing “triple step, triple step, rock step” — it’s about rhythm, timing, technique, confidence, and creating a style that feels natural and fun. Whether you’re brand new or looking to strengthen your skills, I’m here to help you enjoy the journey and fall in love with shag dancing.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
I began my shag dancing journey in 2015 at the age of 48 after experiencing a major life event that led me to seek a new direction. While visiting my local recreation center, I saw an advertisement for a shag class. After my very first lesson, I was completely hooked. By the third lesson, I was already searching for more places to dance and continue learning.
For the next several years, I immersed myself in the shag community, dancing anywhere and everywhere I could in safe and welcoming environments. I also invested in private instruction with Jeremy Webb to develop a strong foundation and learn the proper fundamentals of shag dancing.
In 2018, I was approached with the opportunity to become a competitive dancer with the Competitive Shag Association. I began competing in the Newcomer division in 2018, advanced through the Amateur division from 2018–2021, moved into Novice in 2022, and reached the Professional division in 2023.
Throughout my competitive journey, I have proudly competed at Nationals and Grand Nationals multiple times—three appearances as a non-professional and one as a professional dancer. I have also had the privilege of competing in a Pro/Am event alongside one of my own students.
Teaching became a natural extension of my passion. Since 2022, I have been offering private shag lessons and have been invited by several clubs to teach classes on multiple occasions.
My journey has also opened doors to judging competitions and contributing back to the shag community. I have been invited to judge competitions on several occasions and had the honor of dancing to help sanction a professional division event in 2025.
Shag dancing has become far more than a hobby for me—it has been a journey of growth, healing, friendship, and purpose. My goal is to help others build a strong foundation, gain confidence, and experience the same joy that shag dancing has brought into my life.
